It was about 1 year ago while I passed an Indonesian Independence day celebration in a neighborhood on my way back from Parangtritis. Like any other, preparations for the celebrations begin weeks before the 17th of August. Neighborhood associations often coordinate special activities for the neighborhood like Kerja Bakti (volunteer work conducted for the good of the community) and games. One of the popular games held only in Independence celebration is Pole Climbing. Numerous prizes are tied at the top of the pole, and participants must work together to climb and reach the top of the pole to claim the prizes. To make things even more challenging, the poles are usually oiled up. Actually not in every neighborhood held this game. Even in my neighborhood. What a coincidence… I found.. It’s been a while I didn’t see kind of this game.
I found a lot of children were enthusiast, came to see the game as well as local people. I found it was interesting to capture some pictures as I left some frames in my roll film. It’s not my style actually, capturing people as I’m into landscape stuff. But yeah.. I did, and got surprised with the result then. Here some pictures…
